Over 300,000 people pack Las Vegas Boulevard, the entire Strip is closed to vehicle traffic from 6pm, and at midnight, fireworks launch simultaneously from the rooftops of eight major hotels along a two-mile stretch. The show lasts approximately eight minutes and is visible from virtually anywhere on the Strip.
The question isn't whether you'll see fireworks — you will. The question is whether you'll see them from a private terrace with a glass of champagne, or from a sidewalk shoulder-to-shoulder with 300,000 strangers. Booking Tip: ARIA's NYE package often includes a dinner credit and countdown event access. Book the package rather than just a room — the added value is significant.
NYE Booking Strategy: What You Need to Know
New Year's Eve in Las Vegas operates by different rules than every other night of the year. Here's what experienced visitors know that first-timers don't:
- Book by September at the latest: NYE is the single most in-demand weekend of the year. The Cosmopolitan's wraparound terraces and Bellagio's fountain-view rooms sell out by October. If you're reading this in November, your options are already limited.
- Minimum stay requirements: Most Strip hotels require a 2–3 night minimum stay on NYE weekend (Dec 30 – Jan 1). Factor this into your total cost — a $450/night room for 3 nights is $1,350 before resort fees.
- Resort fees on NYE: Resort fees typically run $45–$65/night at Strip properties. On NYE, some hotels add an additional "event fee" of $50–$150. Read the fine print before booking.
- July 4th is significantly easier: Las Vegas also does a major fireworks show on July 4th, and hotel availability is far better. If you want the fireworks view experience without the NYE chaos and pricing, July 4th is the better choice.
- Request your room orientation in writing: When booking by phone or through the hotel directly, ask the reservations agent to note your room orientation preference in the reservation. "Strip-facing, high floor" is the key phrase. This doesn't guarantee it, but it significantly improves your odds.
